Pongala is a special temple practice of offering boiled rice in earthern pot to the goddess. The Pongala is a 10 days festival program which usually comes on the month of February – March every year ( Makaram – Kumbham in the Malayalam calendar). The festival begins on the Malayalam Karthika star with the traditional Kappukettu and Kudiyiruthu ceremony. The ninth day of the festival is the famous ritual- attraction – the Pongala Mahotsavam day. And the festival will conclude with the Kuruthitharpanam at night.
