Thiruvananthapuram, Tuesday, February 28, 2012: The annual Pongala festival at the Attukal Bhagawathy temple here will begin today with the traditional Kappukettu.
This year, close to 35 lakh devotees are expected to come to capital city to offer pongala to the presiding diety of the temple. The pongala ceremony will be held on March 7.
All renovation activities at temple had been completed. All maintenance work on roads leading to the temple would be completed today.
Every year, more than a million women from various parts of the state and neighbouring Tamil Nadu arrive here to offer the holy pongala- a prasadam made of rice and jaggery- to the attukal Bhagavathi. This year the temple authorities are are expecting huge inflow of pilgrims.
